How Does Deerfield’s Leaf Collection Service Make Fall Cleanup Easier?

Fall leaves bring beautiful color to Deerfield which translate into yard work for homeowners. Fortunately, the Village’s annual FREE leaf collection program offers a convenient way to manage seasonal cleanup. When you are deciding where to live, this type of community support provides added value.

As a Deerfield resident for more than 30 years and a real estate broker with Century 21 Universal, I appreciate the practical services that support homeowners. When I talk with people about living in Deerfield, these everyday conveniences are part of the conversation.

What Value Does Leaf Collection Bring to Deerfield Residents?

You don’t have to bag leaves. For residents using the curbside program, leaf collection reduces the work of bagging fallen leaves for disposal. Homeowners still need to rake, but Village crews handle collection from the designated edge of the property.

Predictable schedule for leaf disposal. Deerfield gives homeowners a meaningful value-added service: practical help with a recurring home maintenance task. It also gives residents a shared schedule for keeping up with fall cleanup.

When Is Deerfield’s 2026 Leaf Collection?

The Village has announced weekly collection from October 26 through November 25, 2026, with Public Works crews making one pass each week. Weather can delay collection, so allow for adjustments when conditions affect the crews’ work.

Check Your Pickup Day Before Raking

The Village’s October 16 announcement notes that the collection map has changed from previous years to avoid leaf collection and LRS collection occurring on the same day in one location. Even longtime residents should check the current map before putting out leaves.

How Should Homeowners Prepare Their Leaves?

A little preparation helps crews collect efficiently:

  • Rake leaves to the curb or carriage walk edge the evening before your scheduled pickup.
  • Keep piles no wider than five feet.
  • Leave out sticks, branches, grass clippings, rocks, mud and other debris.
  • Keep the street clear of parked vehicles on your collection day.

If you use a landscaper, share these instructions so your property is ready for pickup.
